The highlight of the Love to Live weekend that was held at the Protea Sports Centre from 18th to 20th May was undoubtedly the presence of the MEC for Arts and Culture, Bongi Sithole-Moloi at the special Love to Live tribute for Mama Winnie Mandela. The honourable MEC delivered an inspiring keynote tribute to the Mother of the Nation whom she said would be proud to see the work being done by Love to Live. It was also pleasing to hear that the Department of Arts and Culture would continue to support the aims and objectives of Love to Live as a crucial player in addressing social ills in the province.
The Miss Love to Live contest on Friday night was an exciting event with 35 contestants battling it out for the Miss Love to Live title which was finally won by Silver Heights Secondary Grade 10 pupil, Amanda Khumalo. Enthralling performances by Love to Live Ambassador Dezry Kay and the presence of Shaillene Naidoo, Mrs South Africa Finalist added to the awesome vibe.
The stage was set early Saturday morning with the Love to Live “Power of Love” motorcade which was enhanced by Berg Street Primary drum majorettes who brought the City Centre and the Raisethorpe CBD to a virtual standstill.

The Power of Love family fun walk was an exciting event with some 4000 walkers and runners of all ages (including a walker being pushed in a wheelchair) participating and showing their love for one another. Proceeds from the fun run exceeded all expectations and participating schools were presented with up to 90% of funds raised at a special presentation on Wednesday, 20th June at the Eddels Sports Club.
The campaign recorded the biggest ever number of entries in all categories. The quality of the submissions continues to improve from year to year with schools competing for the winning sketch prize money, which was scooped by Northdale Primary & Silver Heights Secondary Schools.
